Locating the cockpit parts
To be able to determine the location of the missile when it exploded it is important to understand what parts are seen on the many photos.
This post is work in progress. It will ‘geo-locate’ the various parts of the cockpit.
Spot 1 cockpit floor
cockpit floor of section where captain seat was located.
original photo here
the top of the photo is the back of the cockpit. The lower part of the photo is where the cockpit windows are.
Spot 2 : instruments panel located between seats of co-pilot and captain.
This photo shows the instruments panel located between the two pilots. It is remarkable there is no sharpnel damage to be seen at this panel.
Spot 3 inner cockoit roof abeam co-pilot
This piece of the cockpit roof shows various traces of damage caused by shrapnel
More photo of this part here , here. here , here ,
The part above is located as indicated by the red box in the picture below
Spot 4 roof antenna area
Spot 5 lefthand side of fuselage between cockpit and first door
Spot 6 feet rest of (likely) captain
Spot 7 Captain seat safety belt
The safety belt of the captain seat is clearly damaged by what looks like shrapnel. During flight normally pilots have the belts on. So if the captain was wearing his belt this provides another clue of direction.
Spot 8 Righthand side of cockpitroof
The roof on the righthand side of the cockpit shows various holes made by shrapnel. The trajectory of the fragments is unclear to me. Penetratation from either inside to outside or reverse. There are holes in the steel construction which runs in the longitude axis of the aircraft. This area is indicated by the purple box.
Spot 9 area on top of cockpit (STA 236.5)
This large piece of debris was located direcly behind the cockpit. It shows various holes which looks to be entry holes. This piece is photographed many times in different positions. Almaz Antey presented this as located behind the cockpit window which is not correct.
Spot 10 area behind cockpit, STA 287.5

Compare to the backrest of the copilot seat:

Note the characteristic axis to which the armrest is attached and the transmission belts to the parallel axis. Those are identical (albeit mirrored).

In the bottom middle there is the backrest of the jumpseat as of july, with the white casing still attached. No shrapnel traces in the casing, so it’s probably the backside.
In your image of the reconstruction the part of the roof you copied in there should be further to the rear. The starboard cockpit section that was recovered terminates around STA 236.5, and that also is where the roof piece begins.
At the 22.48 mark there is a piece of what appears to be the front of the plane.
