MH17: 20 months later
by
At March 17 it was 20 months ago MH17 was shotdown by a BUK missile launched from an area in Eastern Ukraine south of the route of MH17.
There is no certainty who is responsible and why it happened. Was it a mistake or was the aircraft deliberately shot down?
What do we know:
- DSB concluded the aircraft was shot down by a BUK missile with warhead 9N314M based on the bow-tie shaped fragments.
- Two passengers will most likely never be identified
- Dutch government is hiding facts by keeping information state secret.
- Dutch government does not want to take the lead because the DSB and JIT investigations need to be done completely independant.
- DSB concluded Ukraine should have closed its airspace
- The prosecutor will make public before second half of 2016 what the exact type of BUK system was and from which location the missile was launched from
- There are no satellite pictures (in the form of photos) available of the launch as it was cloudy
- Raw primary radar recordings of Ukraine and Russia are not available. In not a single case in the last ten years an accident investigation team did not have primary radar recordings.
- We do not know what information the United Stated handed over to the prosecutor.
- Russian press invented a lot of stories which turned out to be nonsense
- Bellingcat released a couple of reports. It’s narrative is seen by many as the most likely scenario
- The Dutch prosecutor accepted Bellingcat reports as usefull information
- Dutch government mentioned that DSB report was highly praised
- Bellingcat is criticized or ignored by a small but growing number of Dutch media
- Russia does not agree to the conclusions in the DSB report
- There is no information on what kind of court case will be done.
- It will take many years before persons will be prosecuted
- Prosecutor Westerbake has a lot of convidence the truth will be found.
I think these are the most important findings.

> … MH17 was shotdown by a BUK missile
You made a mistake of tunnel vision once. Don’t let it happen again.
I notice that in this article it is claimed that the USA did not supply data to indicate the launch site.
https://consortiumnews.com/2016/03/16/the-ever-curiouser-mh-17-case/
But did I read on here that the head of DSB said that the US had supplied this data but that they could not release it?
“Q: Did you ask for or receive satellite data concerning the firing of the missile? If yes, what kind of information does it concern?
A: Two members of the Safety Board have had the opportunity through the MIVD (Dutch Military Intelligence) to take note of classified information that has been provided to the Dutch security services. The studied information is in line with the conclusions that the Safety Board has taken, based on other research information.
Q: Can it be clarified which United States radar and satellite data has been received?
A: The Safety Board has not requested radar data from the US (see table 8 of the report “MH17 Crash”). With regard to satellite data, the Safety Board is bound to secrecy.”

“The studied information is in line with the conclusions that the Safety Board has taken”
So, the satellite data does not point to any other launch direction than the one DSB concluded.
