Two challenges for Bellingcat
by
Bellingcat does a lot of interesting work. However the result of their investigation always seems to be focused on blaiming Russia and exculpates US and NATO friends.
I am wondering for over a year now why Bellingcat does not release any information on:
- who shelled the MH17 crash site since about late July 2014?
- what are the whereabouts of the Ukraine BUKs? There are quite a few photos and videos of Ukraine BUks made in the period after March 2014. Wouldn’t it be interesting to research that?

“…who shelled the MH17 crash site since about late July 2014?”
The use of artillery and high explosives in that area effectively masked the residues of the explosive used to down MH17 when the wreckage was forensically examined. The shelling of the crash site may have been for this and other reasons and one would assume that the perpetrators wished to disrupt the on site investigations and any subsequent laboratory tests performed on the wreckage.
I think there was a least one shell crater on the road near the remains of MH17’s tail section that appeared after the 17th July (together with possibly other craters in the surrounding fields) and this may indicate the direction/range from which the shell was fired and what type of artillery was used.
Just a Suggestion (not related to this article):
Maybe you could write another “Fact check” about “evidence” for the BUK theory which is highly suspicious to be a fake or is even known to be a fake?
Some examples:
– the “intercepted phone calls” which might be assembled from several phone calls: https://whathappenedtoflightmh17.com/the-chernukhino-launch-location-kiev-wants-us-to-forget/
– the “Paris Match photos”: https://whathappenedtoflightmh17.com/are-the-paris-match-photos-of-the-buk-fake-here-are-the-indications/
– the “Torez photo”: https://whathappenedtoflightmh17.com/how-likely-is-a-blue-sky-in-torez-at-july-17-around-1230/
– the BUK videos: https://whathappenedtoflightmh17.com/new-study-shows-buk-videos-are-fake/
– the “BUK contrail photos”: https://whathappenedtoflightmh17.com/issues-with-buk-contrail-photo/
1)
perhaps:
-The area was in the hands of the “rebels”, UA “just” wanted to take advantage of the weakened rebel forces and clean the area before they manage to enforce their forces.
-or UA wanted to keep rebels out of the crash area so they would not further steal/modify evidence
-or UA “just” wanted to get full control of the crash area because they did not like investigation go through illegal groups. (like Malaysia communicating directly with the terrorists)
-or rebels did not want the investigation to continue
-or rebels wanted to frame UA to be the shooter
etc.
-we see rebel/RU forces used the area to bomb debaltsevo etc. that draws defensive fire to the area. (but IIRC, this happened later in autumn)
From satellite images we saw only one crater near the cockpit area. If someone wanted to destroy the evidence, one would have shot more than one rocket/Tulip ammo to truly hit the wreckage?
2)
Yes, they should also put UA BUK gear on the map as well, to make their work more complete etc.
sotilaspassi,
“From satellite images we saw only one crater near the cockpit area. If someone wanted to destroy the evidence, one would have shot more than one rocket/Tulip ammo to truly hit the wreckage?”
I don’t recall seeing a satellite image of a crater possibly caused by shelling near the cockpit area. Was it in the sunflower field or further away?
Between cockpit remains and houses:
https://www.google.fi/maps/place/48%C2%B007'22.6%22N+38%C2%B033'27.6%22E/@48.122946,38.5565489,386m/data=!3m2!1e3!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0x0
(at some point I have seen some more clear image)
Isn’t that the actual impact location in the sunflower field of the cockpit section?
The cockpit impact location is where the debris is seen. The crater is towards the nearest house.
I am preparing a new blogpost on the shelling at the crashsite. Hope Bellingcat will do the same.
I am unable to see any crater near the cockpit area on Google Maps. Can you point me to clear photos made at groundlevel?
I do not have google earth installed to see but I think here one might find confirmation if the crater was there already 20.Jul.

I have not crater images that show the surroundings & can be located near cockpit.
+ I could be wrong about the crater between cockpit and the house. It just “looks” like a crater.
Long time ago I read news article that show crater and they say it’s near cockpit, but in real life I could not locate the said photo on map (so it looked more like propaganda photo taken further away from site)
I have seen a couple of craters near the crash site. From head near the place where the fuselage/engines/wings crashed.
There are far more craters but these are far from where the plane crashed.
